Chapter 254: The Frozen Throne Trilogy
After dealing with Wang Qingyang's affairs, Liu Hongmin began writing the "Frozen Throne" trilogy.
The story of Lich King Arthas is the character that Liu Hongmin remembers most about World of Warcraft. Because he has played the Warcraft 3 campaign many times, he still remembers most of the plot.
The first part of the trilogy is titled "Alsace".
This film tells the story of the fledgling Prince Arthas of Lordaeron, who, in order to save the plague, killed Kel'Thuzad, slaughtered Stratholme, and chased the dreadlord Mal'Ganis to Northrend in the northern continent. In order to defeat Mal'Ganis, he found the legendary magic sword Frostmourne.
During this journey, he faced many choices, but he ultimately fell according to Mal'Ganis's design.
At the beginning, Liu Hongmin quoted King Terenas.
"My son, when you were born, the entire forest of Lordaeron was whispering your name, Arthas... I looked at you with pride, hoping that you would grow up day by day and become the embodiment of justice. Remember, we have always ruled the kingdom with strength and wisdom. At the same time, I also know that you will use your powerful strength carefully. One day, my life will come to an end, and you will be crowned king!"
Then it describes several stories about Arthas' childhood, when he studied with Muradin and Uther. The two teachers had very different personalities and opposing teaching methods.
Muradin was an open-minded person. He told Arthas that he could use any means to deal with the enemy, not just weapons, but fists, feet, or even teeth, as long as he could kill the enemy.
Uther was serious and rigid. He told Arthas to follow the Knight's Creed and not to violate it, otherwise the Holy Light would abandon him. To this end, Uther told Arthas that Tirion Fordring, the Lord of Hearthglen, was deprived of the Holy Light for helping the orcs, in order to warn Arthas.
This made Arthas very conflicted, and he didn't know who to listen to. He wanted to talk to his father, but his father was busy dividing up the property of the King of Alterac, especially the land of the Barov family. So Arthas rode his beloved horse "Invincible" out of Lordaeron, but because he was not familiar with the environment, he fell into a ravine.
"Invincible" was killed by the fall, and Arthas felt very guilty. Uther comforted him, which made Arthas accept Uther and admire him.
When Arthas grew up, he followed Uther into the Knights of the Silver Hand and fought with him until a plague broke out in the Kingdom of Lordaeron, and Arthas was ordered to investigate.
King Terenas did not take this matter seriously, thinking only that it was an opportunity for Arthas to gain experience. He also sent a letter to the Archmage Antonidas of Dalaran, asking him to send Arthas's girlfriend Jaina over, hoping that the two would strengthen their relationship and get married when the time was right.
But the adults were wrong.
Arthas saw too many tragedies during this investigation. The officials of the kingdom were slow to respond, and some were even waiting for so-called orders from their superiors. This made Arthas doubt Uther's education, and he decided to try Muradin's education, using every possible means to deal with the enemy.
He and Jaina raided Andorhal and killed Kel'Thuzad, the mastermind behind the plague. Kel'Thuzad led him to Stratholme. Facing the threat of Mal'Ganis, Arthas once again did everything he could to absolutely massacre the civilians in Stratholme to prevent the dreadlord from increasing his strength. This order seemed absurd, but it made sense to Arthas. However, Uther objected, and so did Jaina.
Arthas was determined to prove himself, so he led his men into Stratholme and had a slaughtering contest with Mal'Ganis. Mal'Ganis was driven away, and Arthas faced a new choice: to go back and plead guilty to his father, or to continue to hunt down Mal'Ganis. He once again chose to prove himself, so he led his army north to Northrend.
Here, he met Muradin. Muradin was very happy to see Arthas, but he soon found that Arthas was self-willed.
Finally, in the sealed land of Frostmourne, Muradin wanted to stop Arthas, but Arthas said: "Teacher, you told me that I can do whatever it takes to deal with the enemy!"
Muradin was stunned, and Arthas took the opportunity to lift the seal of Frostmourne and picked up the magic sword.
With the help of Frostmourne, Arthas killed Mal'Ganis, but he was also controlled by the sword and became a puppet of the Lich King.
Liu Hongmin changed the spiritual core of "Alsace" and expounded on the importance of family and education. However, he also pointed out that when making choices in your life, you should not be impulsive. Because some choices, after making them, there is no regret medicine to take.
Arthas had the choice to give up many times, but he ended up on the road to destruction because of his impulsiveness.
The second part, "The World Tree", has no major plot changes. Arthas returns to Lordaeron to kill his father, then attacks the high elves and kills Sylvanas. He breaks through Silvermoon City and uses the Sunwell to resurrect Kel'Thuzad. Then he returns to break through Dalaran, gets the Book of Medivh, and summons Archimonde. Archimonde commands the army to attack the continent of Kalimdor to the west, encountering resistance from the coalition of night elves, humans, and orcs. The Lord of the Abyss uses the orc chieftain Hellscream to kill the demigod Cenarius, clearing the way for the army.
However, Arthas also used Illidan to kill the dreadlord Tichondrius, weakening the power of the Burning Legion. In the end, it was Archimonde who personally took action, wiped out the last resistance of the coalition forces, and arrived in front of the world tree Nordrassil. Just as Archimonde was absorbing the energy of Nordrassil, countless elves flew over, detonated Nordrassil, and killed Archimonde.
The third part, "The Lich King", tells the story of "The Frozen Throne". Illidan used the Eye of Sargeras to destroy the Frozen Throne, and the Lich King urgently summoned Arthas to come back for help. As a result, Arthas was ambushed by Sylvanas, poisoned by magic, and had to flee the continent of Lordaeron. Illidan was also organized by various Malfurions and had to flee to Outland to reorganize his forces and launch another attack. This gave Arthas a chance to catch his breath. He rushed back to the Frozen Throne through the passage of the underground kingdom before Illidan arrived. With the blessing of the Lich King's power, he successfully repelled Illidan's attack.
Finally, Arthas ascended the Frozen Throne, put on the Helm of Domination that bound the Lich King's soul, and merged with the Lich King to become the new Lich King.
At the end of the story, Arthas sat on the throne, and the words of King Terenas rang in his ears: "My son, when you were born, the entire forest of Lordaeron was whispering your name, Arthas..."
