The ancients described it as "clear and blue water, as clear as jade", which is also the origin of the name of Yuquan Mountain.
Since the Liao and Jin Dynasties, emperors have built palaces here to escape the summer heat.
In the 19th year of Emperor Kangxi's reign in the Qing Dynasty, a palace was built on Yuquan Mountain and named Chengxin Garden, which was later renamed Jingming Garden.
During the reign of Emperor Qianlong of the Qing Dynasty, Yuquan Mountain was expanded again on a large scale, eventually forming the Sixteen Scenic Spots of Jingming Garden.
There are four pagodas of different shapes on the mountain: Yufeng Pagoda, Miaogao Pagoda, Huazang Pagoda and Liuli Pagoda.
After the founding of the People's Republic of China, Yuquan Mountain was designated for use by state agencies. Currently, the ownership belongs to the military and it has never been open to the public.
